Choices For Celebrity Jewelry
Friday, December 4th, 2009From the outfit and shoes to the jewelry and hair, every component is micro-managed down to the very last detail. After all, image is everything in Hollywood. In 2009, the Emmy’s, Academy Awards and Oscars both saw a lot of glam on the red carpet. Many stars wore red carpet diamonds, in the form of diamond drop earrings, diamond choker necklaces, diamond tennis bracelets and vintage diamond or gemstone rings.
As they walk the red carpet, stars are interviewed on current projects or more importantly, what they are wearing at the event. Many stars love to name drop the designer or jewelry maker behind their creations. This gives press and attention to the designer or company and also ensures the star gets their swag at little to no cost for the credit given. Fans like to imitate what their favorite celebrity is wearing or doing, so this ensures a designers name gets out into the world. This can be great for up and coming designers looking to break into the fashion industry.
When it comes to something more casual, say the MTV Video Music Awards, an edgier outfit paired with a chunky necklace could be more appropriate. In fact, you tend to see more of a celebs personal style come out during the less formal events. Often times a celeb could even pull some things out of their own closet for a event. Black tie or formal on the other hand, requires a tailor made dress or suit.
How much thought is given to the accessories worn on the red carpet? Does the star choose to enhance a current trend or start a new trend with the jewelry they choose to wear? In 2009, we saw the return of asymmetrical jewelry, colored gemstones and some organic pieces such as the chunky necklace, layered necklace and pearl or beaded strands. Diamond chokers were also big, as the elegant piece dazzled on many stars’ necklines.
